Although it varies by individual, Western Massachusetts is the term used by many people who live between the western edge of Massachusetts by New York and roughly Worcester, MA (the line between Central Massachusetts and Western Massachusetts is a bit fuzzy).
fannish activity in Western Massachusetts has included several events in Springfield such as the Science Fiction Happening, Pioneer One one-shot, Pi-con conventions (some immediately over the line into Connecticut, like under a mile), activities at the Amherst campus of the University of Massachusetts, along with a temporary residency of the Boskone series of conventions.
