South Florida is Miami and especially the area north of Miami, including Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. For practical purposes it is a single fannish locale.

Boca Raton was a hotbed of fannish activity in the 1980s and 90s. The first Tropicon was held in Boca Raton in 1982, the South Florida Science Fiction Society (SFSFS) was conceived here in 1985, and many fannish gatherings occurred over the decades.

Tropicons and one Smofcon have also been held in Ft Lauderdale.

The International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts is held annually in South Florida.

And, of course, SunCon, the 1977 Worldcon was held in Miami. (About half the senior committee of MagiCon, the 1992 Worldcon in Orlando were from South Florida.)
