The U.S. state of South Carolina was best known, fannishly, in the 1940s for the Columbia Camp, whose works included the Spiritrip to Boskone II and an effort to unite Southern Fandom with the Dixie Fantasy Federation.
More recently, it hosted the later iterations of Magnum Opus Con and AtomaCon.
