Ronald Loren Smith was a fan who grew up in LA and lived briefly in New York, moving to the Bay Area in 1958 and in the 60s moving to Australia "to escape the threat of nuclear war." In New York, they lived an apartment complex nicknamed the Idiot's Castle with other stfnal people.
Starting in the mid-50s, he published Inside with his wife Cindy Smith. It merged with Science Fiction Advertiser and as Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser, won the 1956 Best Fanzine Hugo (and was nominated again in 1957). Its named changed yet again to Inside Science Fiction before it became moribund in 1958. (It was later resurrected for two issues and then passed on to other hands, ultimately becoming Riverside Quarterly.
He was also responsible for the parody The Magazine of Science Fiction Fantasy and.
