A term attributed to John W. Campbell, Roget’s Disease is the ludicrous overuse of far-fetched adjectives, piled into a festering, odorous, tenebrous, ichorous, leprous, synonymic heap. It applies to both pro and fan writing.

Said-Bookism is one strain of the syndrome.
