Robert Lull Forward was an American physicist and SF writer. His SF was based largely on ideas developed from his career as an aerospace engineer. He earned a doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1965.

Forward is primarily remembered today for his Dragon's Egg series: Dragon's Egg (1980) and Starquake (1985). Both novels were collected in an omnibus edition (Dragon's Egg & Starquake) in 1994.
