(???? –)

SF fan in the 1960s – 1970s.

He was one of the founders of the FSFSCU at Columbia University in 1968 and wrote the early Tolkien book, Guide to Middle Earth.

Guide to Middle Earth[edit]

An index to the people and places in LotR compiled by Foster when he was a member of the fledgling Tolkien Society of America (founded by his good friend Dick Plotz) in New York City.

When Ed Meskys heard about this, he arranged to publish it installments in Niekas and asked Advent:Publishers if they would like to do a hardcover edition. They were unable to and suggested Jack Chalker's Mirage Press, which brought the book out in 1971. It was later published by Ballantine in paperback and expanded and reprinted.
