Ray Edgar Beam, Jr., was an Indiana fan, a member of the CFG, a member of the Midwest Nomads, and a Midwestcon regular. He founded ISFA.

He was active in the First Fandom club, treasurer from 1980 through 1993, and president until 2001. He wrote the lyrics to the filk song "The Bradbury Hate Song."

In the 1950s, he was married to Susie Beam. In 1975, he married Mary Ann Armfield. In mundane life, he was a metallurgist, and held many patents. Besides fandom, he was active in the Masons — a 50-year member of the Greentown Masonic Lodge F&AM 341, and a member of the Scottish Rite, the Shriners and the Grotto.
