Patrick Tilley, a British artist, SF author and screenwriter, was best known for the Amtrak Wars series.
Goh at Wincon I, he fled from the convention on the Saturday, leaving behind only a note: "Have found a portal to another universe, am climbing down there using my shoelaces."
