The Most Promising New SF Author or Artist Hugo category was a one-time category, awarded only in 1953 at Philcon II, the first year the Hugos were awarded under the title "Best New SF Author or Artist". It was replaced in 1955 (the next year the Hugos were awarded) with Most Promising New Author. It was awarded again in 1959 under a third name as "Best New Author of 1958" and was thereafter no longer awarded.

Arguably, this category was revived in a different form in 1973 with the establishment of the Campbell Award.
