The LASFS 50th Anniversary Banquet was organized by Galen Tripp and held November 3, 1984, at the Pasadena Hilton. (The actual anniversay date was October 27.)

Harlan Ellison was the main speaker and spoke for 2½ hours, despite never having been very active in the club. Forrest J Ackerman and Bill Rotsler were among the attendees. (Forry, justifiably, was bitter that he was neither introduced nor invited to speak, as he wrote in a loc to Science Fiction Review 54, Spring 1985, p. 20.)

Robert Bloch sent written congratulations which began:

Dear Friends and Fans: Fifty years ago there were many famous organizations and societies throughout the world -- the Nazi Party, the Gestapo, Murder, Incorporated and LASFS. Today only LASFS has survived. Which only goes to prove you can't win 'em all."

See the long report in File 770 50, p. 10.
