An American literary agent who represented, among others, Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Robert Silverberg and Peter Straub. He was born in Minneapolis, but of necessity moved to New York where he spent most of his career.

He was chairman of the 1st World Fantasy Convention in Providence, RI. He also edited a number of anthologies, including Dark Forces, which won the World Fantasy Award for Best Anthology/Collection in 1981.
