Joe Richard Lansdale is an American author and martial arts expert.

Lansdale has written novels and stories in many genres, including SF, horror, mystery, suspense, and western. He has also written for comics. He has written more than 40 novels, and published nearly 30 short story collections.. Some of his novels have been made into movies.

He was one of the founders of the Horror Writers Association.

He has also won British Fantasy and Readercon Awards.

During his career he has used several pseudonyms, including M. Dean Bayer, Jack Buchanan, Richard Dale, Jonathan Harker, Mark Simmons, and Ray Slater.

The singer and song writer Kasey Lansdale is his daughter.
