George David Joseph Phillies is a SF fan, physicist, and author. He also has the largest collection of board war games in the world.

A long-time member of the N3F, he has served as a Bureau Head and on the club's Directorate; he received the club's Franson Award in 2003 and the club's Kaymar Award in 2007. He contributed a short story, "Who Slays Satan," to Geep!, The Book of the National Fantasy Fan Federation (1987), edited by Rose Secrest.

Phillies was featured in a Member Spotlight, conducted by Jon D. Swartz and Heath Row, in The National Fantasy Fan for December, 2010 (Vol. 10, Nos. 3-4). He was the subject of an interview in the December, 2018 (#14) issue of Ionisphere, an N3F fanzine currently edited by John Thiel.

He was elected president of N3F in 2015 and re-elected for terms in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

He is a Fellow of NESFA and once contributed to APA-NESFA.

He was the editor of A Sea of Stars Like Diamonds, an anthology of original SF stories (2016), published by the N3F. Co-editor was Jefferson Swycaffer. Both Phillies and Swycaffer contributed stories to the anthology.

In addition to The National Fantasy Fan, Phillies edits other N3F publications: The National Fantasy Fan, N'APA, Eldritch Science, The N3F Review of Books Incorporating Prose Bono, The N3F FanActivity Gazette, and Tightbeam (with Swartz). Phillies also serves as head of the Franking Service, Neffy Awards, Book Review, and Pro Bureaus. He has assisted Jon Swartz with published several N3F Fandbooks.

Phillies is an author, with more than two dozen published books and over 170 scientific papers. He has written and published eight science fiction novels, including This Shining Sea, The One World, Minutegirls, Against Three Lands, Eclipse-The Girl Who Saved the World, Airy Castles All Ablaze, Stand Against the Light, and most recently Practical Exercise. His short story collection Nine Gees is available from Third Millennium.

His novel Against Three Lands won the 2019 Neffy Award for best novel. After winning, Phillies asked that the rules be changed, so that N3F officers are no longer eligible for Neffy Awards. His request was granted.

He earned his Doctor of Science degree in physics at MIT.
