FAFIA is an initialism for Forced Away From It All, fafia (rhymes with raffia) means leaving fandom for reasons other than your own desire.

Common reasons are lack of funds to participate, a demanding career, too much schoolwork, ill health, or the demands of family life, particularly in "mixed marriages" -- fans who marry mundanes often become fafiated.
