An initialism for “Further Deponent Sayeth Not,” which means, “I could say more about this subject, but I won’t.”

The full phrase was originally a legal comment, applied to depositions. It likely came into fannish use via Robert A. Heinlein, who employed it in The Door Into Summer (1957) and other novels. Harlan Ellison was fond of it, too. It showed up in such fanzines as Cry of the Nameless in the ’60s and apazines in the ’70s.

Who first initialized it and where ... deponent sayeth not.
