(1) For an organizational section of a convention, see Area.

(2) A section of a prozine or fanzine.

From Fancyclopedia 2, ca. 1959
Every magazine must have departments, and some, both in the pro and in the fan fields, have become overloaded with them. They include the editorial, the contents page, a letter section, reviews of proz and fanzines, artistic and argumentative quotations, and various columns and polls. However, articles with titles such as "Two Letters from Harry Schmarje Dept" are actually a peculiar form of humor, it being understood that the item is not a department and will not recur.
