Dena Benatan Brown joined WPSFA as a high school student in the late ‘60s. She is credited with the immortal words, "Let's Take Science Fiction Out of the Universities and Put It Back into the Gutter Where It Belongs," said at a panel at Secondary Universe III in 1970.
She co-edited Locus with her husband, Charlie Brown, from their marriage in 1970 until their divorce in 1977. From 1972 to 1975, Dena was Locus’s sole full-time employee. (Charlie was earning a living as an electrical engineer until 1976.) During her tenure, Dena contributed editorials and reviews to Locus. She now lives in South Africa.
