Basil Wells

(June 11, 1912 – December 23, 2003)

Basil Eugene Wells was a Pennsylvania SF writer. His first published story, "Rebirth of Man," appeared in the prozine Super Science Stories (September, 1940).

He was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Science Fictioneers, the ISFCC and Vanguard, and wrote for fanzines such as The Explorer, JD-Argassy and Fantastic Worlds. He was married to Margaret Wells; they attended Cinvention in 1949, Midwestcon 2 in 1951 and others.

In addition to SF, Wells wrote fantasy, western, and detective stories for various magazines, sometimes under the pseudonym of Gene Ellerman.

Two collections of his SF stories, Planets of Adventure (1949) and Doorways to Space (1951), were published by FPCI (Fantasy Publishing Company, Inc.).
