Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a French author best known for his self-illustrated children’s book, The Little Prince.

Saint-Exupéry became a pilot in the French air force in the 1920s, and during World War II, he rejoined the military, flying despite his age. On July 31, 1944, he flew a reconnaissance mission over occupied France and never returned. The wreckage of his plane was ultimately found and identified in 2000.
