This first year of the Hugos there was no shortlist of nominees, nor voting by the members of the convention. The winner was chosen by the Philcon II committee.
Presented September 7, 1953 at Philcon II.
The Number 1 Fan Personality Hugo category was a one-time category, awarded only in[1953 at Philcon II, the first year the Hugos were awarded. A similar category was awarded in 1958, Outstanding Actifan and thereafter nothing like either category was ever awarded again.
