Cheltenham is a spa town in Gloucestershire. Fannishly, it is best known for the Cheltenham Circle, an influential British fan group active from 1955 to 1963. Eight of the 69 founder members of the BSFA lived in the town. There was an unsuccessful attempt to revive the group in the 1970s. In the 1980s Chelentenham was home to the Tol-en-Estel smial of the Tolkien Society.
Faancon 4 was held in Cheltenham in 1979 and ConteXXt (Unicon 20) combined with the filk relaxacon HarmUni 2 in 2002.
