A fanzine published by LASFan Helen Finn. There was one issue in mid-1942, before she temporarily moved to Washington, DC. Pavlat-Evans say 20 pages, mimeographed, but give editors as "Street & Finn", whatever that means – nobody else appears to be so involved. Some aspect of it being copyrighted? Joke on Street and Smith?

Shangri L'Affaires 3 (Series B, February 1942) said:

FLASH! Read "between the lines" and learn how Helen Finn gets on betimes with
…
the publication of her "femme",[1] Stench. Well, part of the wench has met Mimi
…
O’Graf and her boy friend, Art O’Scope (he sets the stylus!) and Henny continues
…
her Finnicky stenchiling.[2] Ere long, she expects to have a Finnished product.

The title possibly related to the smell of ink? Shaggy of July 1942 (#4 Series B) mentioned

Ackerman's MADMAN OF MARS which confidentially outstinks STENCH which in turn is more odorous than the DAM THING

Next month's issue described the finished product in detail:

STENCH published by ex LASFS directrix, Helen Finn to out scent the DAM THING. Full of stuff by Yerke and Joquel. It has a variety of contents--several pix by Chamberlain, a pome or so, articles, fun, and stories. It features something new, being copyrighted. It seems the directrix does not like the dreadful butchering some material gets when it is digested, so to prevent being so plagarized [sic], she spent much time and coin to get it official protection from manglers. She even had to have it restenciled in part to meet cpyrite restrictions, but we live but to learn. Next issue, mayhap under a new nom de pub should be out soon, smother and larger.

And in Finn's profile:

Finn is one of the few women ever actively to be engaged in publishing her own fanmag, for which she is now seeking more & better material for second & successive numbers, and also a more suitable title, since she has decided on serious continuance of the magazine. Also, she reports having received one $2.25 year sub. It has been suggested to her some arrangement may be able to be made with Speer to b her publisher; or, falling that, some friends out here probably mimeo & distribute the mag for her from her stencils.

None of this happened.

  1. Or is this more of a pun on fanmag, as fanzine hadn't been invented yet?
  2. Sic! The previous are obvious puns on "mimeograph" and…?
