Kevin James Anderson is a technical writer and SF author who has written spin-off novels for Star Wars and The X-Files. He began publishing SF in 1982 ("Luck of the Draw"), and also writes as K. J. Anderson.

His original works include the Saga of Seven Suns series. He has also written several comic books, including "Enemies & Allies," about the first meeting of Batman and Superman. He collaborated with Brian Herbert, son of Frank Herbert, on several prequels to Dune, and has collaborated with fellow SF author Doug Beason. His short fiction was collected in Dogged Persistence (2001). His novel Ground Zero was on The Sunday Times bestseller list and was voted "Best Science Fiction Novel of 1995" by readers of SFX Magazine.

His wife is author Rebecca Moesta. They currently reside in Colorado.
