(December 5, 1890 – August 2, 1976)

Austrian-German filmmaker and director Fritz Lang is best known for his silent pictures Metropolis (1927) and Frau im Mond ("Woman in the Moon," 1929), produced in Germany during the Weimar Era. He shared screenwriting credit with his wife, Thea von Harbou. They were divorced after she joined the Nazi Party in 1932.

Of Jewish heritage, Lang fled the country in fear of the Nazis in 1933 and ultimately immigrated to the United States, where he continued making movies but none of them were SF.
