Frances Hardinge is a children's fantasy author. Her first novel Fly by Night won the Branford Boase Award, and subsequent novels have won the Guardian and Carnegie Medal awards. Her 2015 book, The Lie Tree won Book of the Year at the Costa Book Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the UK.
She was introduced to fandom through OUSFG when at Oxford, and became president of the society. She rarely seen in public without her trademark black hat.
