Darrell Schweitzer
(August 27, 1952 –)
Darrell Charles Schweitzer is an author, editor, agent, and essayist based in Philadelphia. Much of his focus has been on horror, but he also works in SF and fantasy. He is a prolific writer of literary criticism and editor of collections of essays on various genre writers. He is a long-time fan and published the fanzine Procrastination.
He was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, and graduated from Villanova University (B.S., 1974; M.A., 1976). He began his literary career as a reviewer and columnist. He worked as an editorial assistant for Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine from 1977–1982, for Amazing Stories from 1982–1986, and was co-editor of Weird Tales from 1987–1990. He was sole editor of Weird Tales from 1991–1994 and its successor, Worlds of Fantasy & Horror, from 1994–1996.
From 1998–2007, he was again co-editor of Weird Tales. He has also been a part-time literary agent for the Owlswick Agency in Philadelphia, and a World Fantasy Award judge. He is a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America and the Horror Writers of America.
