The Shirley Jackson Awards were established to honor outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror, and the dark fantastic.
The Awards, named for author Shirley Jackson (1916-1965), are given in a number of categories.
The first awards were presented in 2007. Winner of the first best novel award was Elizabeth Hand for Generation Loss (Small Beer Press).
