Starting in 1965 the Nebula Awards Banquet is where the Science-fiction and Fantasy Writers of America give out their Nebula and other Awards.

In the early years it was held on the same night in New York, California, and a central location to make it attendable to most of its membership.

During the years 1969, 1970, and 1971 that central location was New Orleans. Don Walsh (host), the New Orleans Science Fiction Association, Jan Samules & the Tulane University fan group, and many of the Shadows of New Orleans Fandom took pride in guiding visiting authors and their families around the city, digging up old friends from the NOSFS days and party heartying.

On March 15th, 1969 and in 1970 the location was the Fountainbleau Motel. On April 3rd, 1971 it was held at the LePavillon Hotel.

The Tulane University fan group hosted an after banquet party in 1969.

In 1970 Wyane LeBaud and Dean Sweatman (the salt & pepper team of New Orleans fandom at that time) had the honor of guiding Andy Offutt and wife down Bourbon Street and ending up at The Morning Call for coffee and begnets. Saturday Dean drove Joe Green and family out to visit with Harry B. Moore for a fan visit.
