Site Selection for the 1957 Worldcon was conducted by Nycon II the 1956 Worldcon. There were two bidders who advertised in Nycon's PR 4, London in 1957 and Los Angeles in 1957. Puzzlingly, the con report in Fantasy Times #255 p1 lists the opposition to London as being a bid from Berkeley/Oakland, CA.
The vote was 203 for London and 65 for the California opposition (whichever it was!). London won and went on to run Loncon. This was the first time that Worldcon left North America and only the second time it left the US.
