Suzette Haden Elgin was born Patricia Anne Wilkins. She was an American SF author, and founded the Science Fiction Poetry Association which gives out an Elgin Award in her honor. She is considered an important figure in the field of SF-constructed languages.

She is remembered primarily for her Coyote Jones, Ozark Trilogy, and Native Tongue series of stories.
