This isn't exactly right -- in Fancy 2, the slashes overlay the letters they are cancelling out -- an effect we can't figure out how to make appear here or on most modern wordprocesssing software.
Besides the approach used above, the legal strikeout font --this sort of thing-- is a reasonable way to indicate semi-cancellation. We use both quite indiscriminately in Fancy 3. The key thing is to pretend to hide the supposedly unwanted text.
