"Campbellian" refers to John W. Campbell, Jr.. (1910-1971), longtime editor of Astounding'/Analog SF magazine who was very influential in setting standards for science fiction beyond those of the average pulp SF magazines of the time.
Campbell is credited with shaping the so-called Golden Age of Science Fiction.
