(1909 -- 1956)
Howard Elmer Wandrei was a SF and fantasy author and artist who published more than 200 stories in such magazines as Astounding, Unknown, and Weird Tales, many under the pseudonyms of Howard Graham, H. W. Guernsey, Robert Coley, Robert A. Garron, and Howard Von Drey. He also wrote many mystery stories, some in Black Mask.
He was the brother of SF/fantasy author Donald Wandrei, and illustrated his book, Dark Odyssey. He also painted the dust jacket for his brother's The Eye and the Finger.
At one time Arkham House planned to publish memorial volumes of Howard Wandrei's best works, but none have appeared. Fedogan & Bremer published several collections of his stories in the 1990s-2000s, using some of the same titles as the proposed Arkham House publications: Three Tales (1995), Time Burial (1995), The Last Pin (1996), Saith the Lord (1996), and The Eerie Mr. Murphy (2003).
