Funcons are a type of convention that has been running in (and occasionally outside) the UK since the 1980s. They tend to focus on a mixture of physical activities, "making and doing" items, talks, and occasionally panels. They are something a little more specific than conventions about having fun, but they generally mix activities the audience is expected to get involved in with more traditional talks and panels (though these often focus on "unusual" topics).
Here is a (probably incomplete) list of funcons:
- Lazlar Lyricon I, 1985
- Dangercon, 1987
- Incon I: Inconsequential, 1992
- Incon II: Inconceivable, 1995
- Incon V: Inconsistent, 1996
- Year of the Wombat, 1997
- Lazlar Lyricon II, 1998
- Aliens Stole My Handbag, 2000
- Damn Fine Con, 2002
- They Came and Shaved Us, 2003
- Convivial UK, 2004
- Brentcon 1, 2004
- Year of the Teledu, 2007
- Zombiecon, 2008
- Lazlar Lyricon III, 2017
- FunCon One: Space leopards (probably) won't eat your face, 2024
