Readercon 23 was held July 12-15, 2012 at the Burlington Marriott in Burlington, MA. GoHs: Peter Straub and Caitlin R. Kiernan. Memorial GoH: Shirley Jackson.
This is the convention at which neopro Genevieve Valentine accused fan René Walling of unwanted attentions to her. The concom subsequently banned Walling from the con for two years under Readercon’s harrassment policy, after which All Fandom Was Plunged Into War because, on one hand, Valentine’s supporters felt it insufficient since the official policy called for zero tolerance and a permanent ban, and on the other because other fans felt it too severe in light of what Valentine said Walling’s offenses were. The con’s board then overruled the committee, banned Walling permanently, and then all the board members resigned.
