The first Southwestercon was held in at the Hotel Dallas in Dallas, TX July 4-6, 1958. The GoH was Marion Zimmer Bradley (replacing Fredric Brown who was ill.) It was chaired by Tom Reamy and Randy Brown. It was sponsored by the DFS. It included a banquet ($2.75), a masquerade ball, and the premier of a new movie, The Space Children.
It was at this convention that the DFS voted to disband.
