Completely unscientifically, we declare that cats are fandom's favorite pets. There have been many Big Name Cats in fandom, including:
- Peggy Gillespie, a member of First Fandom.
- Bill Bowers' Responsibility.
- Roger Weddall's Typo, who won a controversial Ditmar Award at the Australian Natcon SunCon in 1991.
- Constantinople, a three-legged cat who spawned a convention.
- Maxwell Silver Hammer Smith, described in "Planet Catnip: My Life with an Alien Cat" by Leah A. Zeldes in the anthology Cat Women: Female Writers on their Feline Friends.
Fandom's crazy cat ladies:[edit]
- Mary Elizabeth Counselman, a Weird Tales author who collected black cats.
- Joni Stopa, whose many cats were one reason so many Wilcon attendees slept outdoors in tents.
