A small group of fans participating in such at cons unfortunately opened the door to mundane S/M enthusiasts who found our conventions convenient playgrounds, with a devastating effect on at least one East Coast con. (Since it comes from the Internet, the term obviously post-dates Fancy; it also seems doubtful that such practices had penetrated the predominantly male fandom of the 1950s.)
