Writers who take elements of Tolkien's writing to produce second-rate imitations. Terry Brooks' Sword of Shannara was the first and produced around two dozen sequels.

At their best, the Tolkien imitators add their own ideas and talents and produce first-rate fiction, but far too much of it is mediocre, even more than Sturgeon's Law would suggest.
