PhilCon 81 was held December 4-6, 1981 in Philadelphia at the hotel in Center City then known as the Philadelphia Sheraton-Downtown. The principal speaker was Joe Haldeman and the Guest Artist was Darrell Sweet.

Attendance was about 1500. The annual Army/Navy football game was in town that weekend and the convention shared the hotel with hundreds of naval cadets. Fans and cadets vied for the "most rowdy" title until late in the evening when men with lots of gold braid on their uniforms started walking around the hotel and the cadets all disappeared into their rooms.

There was a short con report by Darrell Schweitzer in File 770 30, p. 11.
