The book runs to 133 pages excluding the index (144 altogether) and includes 32 pages of fan art. It is likely the first academic book-length study of fanzines. Wertham's portrayal is essentially sympathetic, albeit drawn on a relatively small sample of fanzines, skewed towards comics.
