Leigh Kennedy was born in Denver, Colorado. She has lived in the UK since 1985. At one time she lived in Austin, Texas.
She was married to UK SF writer Christopher Priest 1988 - 2011.
Kennedy's story "Her Furry Face" was a nominee for the Nebula Award for Best Short Story. Her genre novels include The Journal of Nicholas the American (1986) and Saint Hiroshima (1990). Her short fiction was collected in Faces (1987).
