A bid to host the 2028 Worldcon in Kigali, Rwanda, as the first in Africa, chaired by Kabunga Micheal.[1] The main organizing body was given as NUCPAAW (National Union of Creative, Performing Artists and Allied Workers) on the website but Inema Art Center & Kampcon Fandom Foundation in the 2024 questionnaire.

It was launched in early August 2022 as Uganda in 2028 for Kabunga's home Kampala, Uganda, to be named Kampcon, but moved to neighbouring Rwanda, just before Glasgow 2024 in August amid concerns about Uganda's approach to human rights.[2] The website remains on the same Kampcon address, and in fact most of instances of the name "Kampcon" have not been removed a week later, but the questionnaire says the name is now Con Kigali, and one headline on the website adds 2028.

2028 Worldcon Site Selection will take place at LAcon V, with the only competitor so far Brisbane in 2028.

2028 Site Selection 2028
This is a page about a convention bid. Please extend it by adding information about who was bidding, officers, committee list, what they were bidding for, who their opponents were, and who won.

  1. It is common in Uganda to state family name first, followed by given name, somewhat like in Hungary (not to mention China); see for example 2019 newspaper essay. This led to some confusion on the bid website and related publicity where both forms may be used without making the context clear – for example the quoted con committee list in File 770 was (with an exception or two) surname-first, even as the editorial parts of the article mention the chair as "Micheal Kabunga". There have also been misspellings to the globally more usual "Michael".
  2. Especially the death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality".
