There is an assumption that this is not the same person as [[Jim Groves]] although both lived in [[London]] with J. W. in the south-west and Jim in the east. Jim Groves does not appear in [[Ron Bennett]]'s [[Directory of Science Fiction Fandom|directories]] until 1958 and on one interpretation of his date of birth was only 10 or 11 in 1949 although there is an ambiguity over whether he was born in 1938 or 1928. Most conclusively, ''[[Who's Who in Fandom]]'' of 1961 says Jim Groves only got involved in fandom in 1959. This means this page is now more about Jim Groves than J. W. Groves but sadly we know very little about the latter.

John William Groves, professionally known as J. W. Groves. was a UK fan and [pro]] from London active from the 1930s to the 1960s. He was a member of the Science Fantasy Society (SFS).

His first story appeared in Amazing Stories in October 1931 and his last in Galaxy in 1964, with 10 more in various magazines between 1950 and 1954. Two novels were published in 1968 and 1969.
