The Chicon V program book makes me think his name was Theodore H. Engel.
There was a Theodore Henry Engel (2 Dec 1914 – 25 Feb 1999) whose wife Jean died in 1994. Her maiden name was McClain, which would tell us more about Jean Carrol if that was the right family.
Chicon V (1991) was the last time either of them appeared in a Worldcon program book, I think.
