Evidence[edit]
This obituary for Joseph Allen Christoff says "Mr. Christoff was a native of Sandusky, Ohio and had resided in Pensacola most of his life." Joseph Allen Christoff died June 23, 1975 at the age of 52.
His grave says he was born August 19, 1923, but this seems to be off by a year since he died at the age of 52, and this birth record shows a Joseph Christoff born August 19, 1922 in Erie County, Ohio (i.e. the Sandusky area) to a father whose name began "Lem" (Lembi Christoff, according to Find a Grave).
Joe seems to have used post office boxes for his fannish career, mostly in the Pensacola/Gulf Breeze area, but also in Atlanta. Since the obit said he was a salesman for the Dixie Holliday Co., he may have had an Atlanta PO box out of convenience (Atlanta, 5-6 hours away, might have been part of his territory).
Joe regularly told the census takers that he was born in Florida, and Lembi's obituary said he had been living in Pensacola since 1919, so it's a bit odd that he was in fact born in Sandusky, but I suppose the family had been traveling. (The wedding announcement said they planned to live in Arkansas, so the first few years of their married life seem to have been a bit uncertain.) — Bee Ostrowsky (talk) 08:25, 12 April 2023 (PDT)
