David Speakman, a Bay Area fan, is a member of the Bay Area Science Fiction Association.

He was a longtime member of the N3F, President 2013–2014, and editor of the club's fanzines. He served as Chair of the club's Directorate and on several of the club's Bureaus and was awarded a rare Life Membership. In 2021, after nearly 40 years of membership, he cut ties with the club as a result of the Alt-Right Recruiting Controversy.
