Science Fiction Gazette

The Science Fiction Gazette (later issues were hyphenated Science-Fiction, as SFA's punctuation also varied) was a newsletter "for members only" published by the Science Fiction Association in the UK in two series in 1937 and, after a year's pause, 1938–9. The editor/s of the first series up to #6 are unknown and where copies exist nobody is credited although they were clearly from the Leeds branch. There were two versions of #4, produced by the two rival factions of the Leeds group during their SFA/SFL feud.

The first in the new series was edited by G. Ken Chapman from London, where the SFA had relocated, and the last by Eric C. Williams, with presumably one or the other doing the one in between.

"The membership of the Association has now reached the 71 mark, the last eleven being … all the Los Angeles are now members of the Association." Done on an old-style typewriter without a separate numeral "1" so it had to be emulated with capital I.

6	September 1937	1	Title and SFA (twice) now hyphenated. Deals with "reorganising the society to some extent, in several stages during the next few months … to make the running of the society more efficient than at present."
Pause of more than a year – quite a lot in SFA's brief life; followed by "New Series". This, per BFB, changed format from quarto to taller foolscap.

Contains full-stopped headlines "BALLOT FOR 1938-1939 S.F.A. COUNCIL." and "EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CHANGES." (resignation of "Mr. Eric C. Williams")

3	May 1939	2	whole number 9, last issue. "Editor - Eric C. Williams. (New Series, No. 3.) … primarily to inform members of some emergency changes that have been carried out in the Secretariat of the SFA. … the members of SFA, when it comes to active work, are the last word in apathy."
