'''Theron Raines''', a onetime [[fan]] originally from [[Arkansas]], belonged to the [[DFF]] in the 1940s. 

He moved to [[New York]] and became a [[literary agent]] representing the [[sf]] clients of the Ann Elmo Agency and later had his own agency, Raines & Raines, beginning in 1961. His clients included [[Harlan Ellison]], who said Raines was “the most reserved person I know, who never comments too favorably about my [[stf]]” (''[[Cry]]'' 111, [https://fanac.org/fanzines/Cry_of_the_Nameless/Cry111.pdf January 1958]), and [[Joe Hensley]], who wrote of him, “Theron was an exceedingly fine person. In New York he took me to dinner and I bought him drinks. He wore tweed clothes and had a sort of Yale accent” (''[[Yandro]]'' 204, [https://fanac.org/fanzines/Yandro/Yandro204.pdf February 1971]).

Raines wrote one sf [[novel]], ''The Singing: A Fable about What Makes us Human'' (1988), and edited two issues of ''[[Startling Stories]]'' in 1955.
